The Midway Navy Ship, docked in San Diego sits next to the Kissing Couple statue, inspired by the famous photograph by Alfred Eisenstadt on VJ Day upon our victory in World War II.
One of my favorite locations in San Diego, it also hosts a collection of bronze statues of Bob Hope at a microphone entertaining groups representing various wars. As one stands amongst the figures, a continual recording of Mr. Hope’s voice echos through the air. More than once I’ve thought I saw the beloved figures moving as I heard the sound of their laughter.
